Chevrolet debuted an off-road-focused variant to its iconic Silverado HD lineup. This new trim level offers a host of all-terrain goodies as standard, with a choice of gas or diesel drivetrains. Here’s the breakdown of the new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 specifications.
Starting with the most obvious, the new Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 features 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory M/T tires wrapped around 18-inch wheels. The look of this exclusive tire and wheel setup is supported by a 1.5-inch suspension lift with Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers and revised suspension components to handle the demands of off-roading.
Standard off-road hardware on the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 includes an aluminum skid plate at the front, a steel skid plate to protect the transfer case, steel bumpers, and red tow hooks. In addition, Silverado HD ZR2 buyers can choose between the standard 6.6-liter gas V8 (401 hp) or the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel (470 hp), providing a tow-happy 975 lb.-ft of torque. Both engines feature the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The gasoline V8 has a max towing rating of 16,000 pounds and a max payload under 3,400 pounds. The max towing rating for the Duramax diesel V8 is 18,500 pounds, and a max payload of 3,200 pounds.
This off-road heavy-duty truck also offers an optional performance package dubbed the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 Bison. The Silverado HD ZR2 Bison trim level provides steel-stamped front and rear bumpers, winch accommodations, and higher-strength bash plates. Moreover, the Bison features gloss black painted 18-inch wheels.
For the interior, the 2024 Silverado HD ZR2 features leather upholstery with elegant dark trim and easy-to-clean surface material. Instrument gauges are displayed on a 12.3-inch screen, while the center of the dash houses a 13.4-inch infotainment screen.
Pricing for the new Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 is scheduled to be announced before the truck goes into production in the summer.
