Those who feel life is better with two doors and no roof will rejoice at the return of the Mercedes-Benz SL class. The Mercedes SL dates back to 1954 with the iconic ‘Gullwing’ 300 SL Roadster. This new model will debut in late 2021 as the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL. What we know so far is that it will share a platform with the Mercedes-AMG GT coupe and will be the first all-wheel-drive SL. Mercedes-Benz released official photos of the AMG SL’s redesigned interior.
Mercedes-Benz describes the interior of the 2022 AMG SL as “hyperanalog,” taking inspiration from the world of aviation. This is most notably seen in the Mercedes-AMG SL galvanized turbine AC vents. In the center of the dash rests a nearly 12-inch display screen that can be adjusted vertically to reduce sunlight glare when the SL’s top is down. The new 2022 AMG SL will be a bespoke version of Mercedes’ MBUX first seen in the S-Class. Another exciting detail is the car’s 2+2 seating configuration which has not been seen in a Mercedes SL convertible since 1989.
The 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL seats are described as sculptural with slimming textures in stitched leather. From the press photos, the seats look thin but will offer the comfort and plush sensation one expects in a Mercedes GT sports car. Drivers can check their speed thanks to a 12.3-inch LCD instrument screen with an available heads-up display. Other interior features on the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL include Burmester audio speakers housed in metal grilles, an AMG steering wheel, and 64 color options for ambient lighting.
