Lot 274 on the Bonham’s auction block certainly broke the mold. The 2009/2019 MAT New Stratos Coupé was the first model to be offered at auction. The car is a unique take on the classic Ferrari F430 Scuderia. Manufattura Automobili Torino enhanced the Ferrari model’s original 4.3-liter V8 engine to max it out at 540 hp, thanks in part to a reconfigured engine management system. By using a shorter wheelbase, the coupé is also able to shed 110 lbs off of its original weight. The end result is a faster, more agile version of a seminal sportscar.
Since being reconverted in March of 2019, the MAT New Stratos Coupé has logged just 1,800 miles on its odometer. Just 25 of these models have been produced making this one coming to auction a true rarity. After being sold for €690,000, it’s unclear whether or not the opportunity to own this modified Ferrari will ever present itself again.
