Yamaha unveiled the first glimpse of its retro-inspired XSR900 GP. This tribute motorcycle is built using a blend of nostalgia and modern technology with a livery that takes you back to the 1980s and 90s. The Yamaha XSR900 GP is based on the heritage version of the MT-09 roadster triple and built on the new Deltabox frame, which debuted on the Yamaha YZR500 in 1982 and finished in silver. The retro white, red, and yellow livery-painted bodywork hides a host of standard modern tech.

Features like lean-sensitive traction control, ABS, and wheelie control. In addition to a new five-inch TFT screen allowing access to three preset riding modes: Sport, Street, and Rain, and two custom modes. Other amenities include cruise control, an assist and slipper clutch, and a two-way quick shifter as standard.

The XSR900 GP uses an 890cc engine producing 117 horsepower and 68 pound-feet of torque for performance. Compared to the standard XSR900, the GP includes a front cowling structure that Yamaha claims increases acceleration and top speed. Meanwhile, ducts on the side panels are there to improve cooling for the radiator. A 6-speed transmission manages the engine and rolls on 17-inch forged wheels.

Throwback styling cues include frame-mounted fairing and seat with pillion cover. Its 14-litre fuel tank is adapted from the XSR inspired by the 1980s Deltabox Gp and street bikes of the era. The Yamaha XSR900 GP is available in Legend Red and Power Grey. Pricing has not been disclosed, but it is safe to assume it’ll be a premium over the base XSR.
