Video game fans everywhere have been waiting on pins and needles for the announcements of the newest editions of the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox. The wait is quickly drawing to a close as Microsoft put forward its very first teaser trailer for its next-gen console, the Xbox Series X.
The trailer didn’t show much of the system, at least in terms of hardware. It did show off the look of the console, which looks more like a large rectangular tower versus the current horizontal construction of the Xbox One. One thing is much clearer, Microsoft appears to be keeping the design of the current controller intact. What the teaser did show was something much more substantive — gameplay. Eagerly anticipating viewers were given a few Pavlovian snippets of forthcoming games, including screenshots from the latest edition of Halo, Xbox’s seminal franchise along with the potential graphics for future releases of FIFA and Gran Turismo. It also teased the date of the console’s release, which is set for the 2020 holiday season. So over the next year, the Microsoft hype machine will continue to build drama that will culminate with the release of the Xbox Series X.
