N.E.R.D. frontman, producer, writer, rapper, singer, fashionista — Pharrell Williams has worn many hats over the course of his career (including the famously oversized “forest ranger” fedora that he first sported at the 2014 Grammy Awards). Should we be surprised that he has just released his own brand of hot sauce?
Perhaps not. But what is surprising is the unique blend of spicy and sweet that Williams Family Kitchen Nono Sauce offers. The sauce started with Pharrell’s father, who blended the original homemade sauce to glaze and marinate all kinds of meat for grilling. Partnering with Dean & Deluca, the Williams family has now recreated this recipe and packaged it for public consumption.
A distant cousin of BBQ sauce, Nono has a familiar tang that makes people want to beg for the recipe. But the Williams family’s response to these requests gave the sauce its name and its catchphrase: “They ask what’s in it, and we say ‘no no.’”
