Holding the distinction of being the first friction folder for the WESN brand, the WESN Samla is set to launch soon via Kickstarter. It is the most lightweight and compact design to date for the brand and pays homage to the company’s Scandinavian heritage. WESN founder Billy Chester was inspired to make ultra high-quality knives after finding a historic item, a late 1800s Eskilstunan pocket knife, while on a trip to Sweden. (Eskilstuna is a Swedish town located in the northern part of the country and is known as the Stalstaden or “City of Steel.”) Although the knife was some 150 years old at the time, it was still operational and beautiful. It was this unlikely find that inspired the beginning of the WESN brand in the first place.
The newest addition, the WESN Samla pays homage to that original Scandinavian find and is a knife designed to reimagine the modern friction folder. While being thin and compact enough to easily be carried around, the WESN Samla is also precise enough for food prep and more. Its blade is made of Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel (Sweden-sourced) and is corrosion resistant and extremely hard. It is also optimally designed to minimize edge folding and microchipping. The WESN Samla is the latest offering by this storied knife-making brand and is a product created to last a lifetime.
