A smaller Bonneville could have looked like an exercise in badge reduction. The new Triumph Bonneville T40 instead compresses the British marque’s most recognizable silhouette around a 398cc single while adding an unusually complete electronics package.

The liquid-cooled TR-Series engine receives a revised cylinder head and model-specific tune, producing 30 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 26.6 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm through a six-speed gearbox.

A teardrop tank, round LED headlight, peashooter silencer, twin rear shocks, and 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels preserve the visual grammar of Triumph’s larger modern classics. Hand-painted coachlines and concealed cables keep the finish from reading like a budget imitation.

Modern hardware is less discreet. A circular 4-inch TFT supports navigation, phone, and music controls. Five riding modes, cornering ABS and traction control, cruise control, self-canceling indicators, and USB-C power come standard. Seat height is 31.1 inches, wet weight is 421 pounds, and an accessory seat lowers the perch to 30.3 inches.

The Bonneville T40 Black uses the same mechanical package with matte gray-and-black paint, dark engine cases and exhaust, and a brown bench seat.

U.S. pricing will be announced in early 2027, with dealership arrivals scheduled for spring 2027.
