A new Stockholm-based company has introduced a compact EV to tackle the demands of urban living. This new company is called Luvly, and its electric car is dubbed the O. What separates the Luvly O from other EVs is its size, proclaimed safe build quality, and above all else, its quirky, endearing looks.
The O’s dimensions are shorter than a modern Fiat 500 with a minimalist design language. It has recessed round headlights, semi-exposed wheels, and no grille, or rear glass. Based on the photos, the Luvly O resembles an enclosed bathtub on wheels. Nevertheless, the little EV has room for two seats and 9.4 cubic feet of cargo space.
Powering the Luvly O is a 6-kWh battery providing a modest 62 miles of range. However, because the O weighs less than 1,000 pounds, moving it does not require a heavy-weight battery. Moreover, the battery is designed to be divided into two removable pieces that can be charged at home using regular European-style power outlets.
For safety, Luvly claims the vehicle’s “sandwich composite safety shell” makes the O among the safest in its four-wheel cycle, micro EV segment. The composite safety shell works by helping to absorb the energy from impacts to protect passengers during collisions. Plus, the vehicle is not built for speed, so it’s safe to use among the busy urban streets of pedestrians and cyclists, unlike other heavy-weight EVs. Currently, Luvly is offering the O on its official website, but details on the production date have yet to be disclosed.
