Rolex is a brand that is synonymous with the very best of watchmaking. Their watches are aspirational pieces, often purchased to commemorate a significant milestone or life event. They take pride in their work, which is why they seldom update their watches, but when they do, it’s a careful incremental evolution. Developed in 1963 for motorsports, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona has been a favorite amongst Rolex fans. It’s classic chronograph design has changed very little from its original shape that carries to its latest iteration which was revealed earlier this year.
The most significant change is the new Cerachrom bezel with a tachymetric scale that can measure up to speeds of 400 miles per hour. It’s much more durable than the steel bezel it replaces, resistant to scratches and fade. The rest of the watch stays fairly untouched, but why mess with a good thing. Being the most significant update to an iconic watch in a while, there’s even a waiting list for the Daytona that can be anywhere from two to five years, proving that it’s a watch that is worth aspiring to.
