Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster

Mercedes-AMG introduces a pair of roadsters to the AMG GT family.

There are several inescapable patterns in the automotive industry, one of which is that a successful sports car will always spawn an open-top variant. Despite the fact that chopping off the roof of a sports car will decrease the car’s rigidity, therefore sacrificing the car’s handling, it’s a smart move from a business perspective as it seems to increase the appeal of the car proportionately to the amount of headroom the driver gains.

As anticipated, Mercedes-AMG has revealed the drop-top version of its Mercedes-AMG GT. The AMG GT Roadster comes in two flavors, the AMG GT and the AMG GT C, with the GT C offering more horsepower at 547-hp that will propel the car to 60 in just 3.7 seconds, as well as technology from the manic AMG GT R. The base model offers a still eye-watering 469-hp, which accelerates to 60 at 4 seconds flat.

Both car borrows heavily from the GT R’s exterior design as well, with a front end that reminds us of a Ninja Turtle wearing Hannibal Lecter’s mask. This is mostly due to the active air management system that’s been borrowed from the GT R, with vertical louvres behind the from fascia that can be opened or closed to adjust the airflow.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster and the GT C Roadster will debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.
