An offshoot of the tiny house movement that has everything to do with the skyrocketing price of property prices, the micro apartment market is booming. South Africa’s Tsai Design recently rose to the challenge of creating a “spacious” living environment within an apartment unit that measures just 35 square meters.
Completely transforming this tiny space from the 1970s that didn’t even contain a working kitchen, Tsai Design presents the Richmond Apartment, a one-bedroom apartment that not only contains a highly functional “disappearing” kitchen, but also a range of living areas that cleverly overlap with and/or transform into one another. One corner of the residence, for example, can be easily modified to become a bedside table, a compact home office, or a mini entertainment center. Thanks to design tricks such as flexible mirror illusions and an abundance of natural light, the apartment feels anything but cramped.
