While President Barack Obama was serving his first term in office, Nike crafted a pair of custom Hyperdunks exclusively for the 44th President to honor his love of both watching and playing basketball. Nike produced only two pairs of these Hyperdunks, one is a sample owned by an unidentified collector and the other belongs to President Obama. Now, Sotheby’s is offering the sample size 12.5 pair of the President Barack Obama Player Exclusive Nike Hyperdunk sneakers on the auction house’s Buy Now platform. Sotheby’s is tying the drop to the upcoming President’s Day weekend and will release the pair for $25,000 on Friday, February 12th at 4:44 p.m. in honor of the 44th president of the U.S.
This Hyperdunk resembles the ‘United We Rise’ version with white leather uppers, blue Swooshes, and visible Flywire technology. In addition, the pair on offer at Sotheby’s, deemed to be in near perfect condition, features an embroidered number “44” on each shoe as well as the Presidential Seal on the tongue. The insoles include patriotic graphics, including bald eagles and the date 1776 which references the year the U.S. was established. Never one to hide his enthusiasm for the game of basketball, any fan of Barack Obama or sports memorabilia collector, should appreciate the rarity and exclusivity of this offering.
