Porsche plans to knock Mercedes-AMG down a peg regarding the title of fastest road-legal to lap the Nürburgring. To do so, they need a car which Porsche unveiled today, under the name Mission X. This hyper-fast electric supercar is a design study concept not intended for production or is it?

The brand describes the Porsche Mission X as “the pinnacle of performance and modern luxury.” It boasts a power-to-weight ratio of one horsepower per 2.2 pounds. Furthermore, it can achieve more downforce than the latest 911 GT3 RS and includes an electrical system with faster charging times than the Taycan Turbo S. Other purposeful design cues are the staggered wheels, 20 at the front and 21 at the back, featuring translucent aero blades that direct air to improve brake cooling.

The influence of the supercar’s sleek styling can be seen in the Porsche Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. Its glass dome is supported by carbon fiber-reinforced plastic and houses a two-seater cabin. The doors are attached to the car’s A-pillars and roof, so they swing out forwards and upwards “Le Mans style.” Inside, the seats are color-coded and feature six-point harnesses mounted directly to the carbon fiber monocoque. The motorsport-inspired steering wheel is an open-top with switches for different drive modes and paddle shifters.

Performance specs have been left intentionally in the dark. However, the Porsche Mission X is the first car to wear the new crest. Whether the car can go into production depends on the public demand. Porsche says the decisions will “be decided in due time.” This could be interpreted as waiting to see if buyers line up with pre-order deposits in hand.
