Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney Plus on May 25th

Live-Action Prequel Series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ To Premiere On Disney Plus

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ will serve as the next flagship ‘Star Wars’ series on Disney Plus until ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 lands, sometime in late 2022.

Disney Plus has just announced the Star Wars original limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut on May 25, 2022. This is a special date in the Star Wars universe as it marks the 45th anniversary of the debut of Star Wars: A New Hope back in 1977. Obi-Wan Kenobi will pick up “ten years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” The series follows the events after Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side and became the evil Sith Lord, Darth Vader.

While no exact plot descriptions for the new show have been announced yet, we do know that Ewan McGregor will return to the role of Obi-Wan the iconic Jedi Master, which he portrayed in the Star Wars prequel trilogy between 1999 and 2005. Hayden Christensen will return as the evil iron-lunged Sith, Darth Vader. Along with McGregor and Christensen, series newcomers include Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Joel Edgerton (Loving), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), and Benny Safdie (Good Times). Deborah Chow will direct the series and also serve as an executive producer with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Ewan McGregor, and Joby Harold.
