With the 2022 Chicago Auto Show in full swing, Nissan has debuted three concept trucks based on the new Nissan Frontier. These concept trucks are titled Project Hardbody, Project 72X, and Project Adventure. All three pickup trucks take inspiration from the original Nissan Hardbody that cemented the brand’s reputation in the United States for building durable, compact pickup trucks.
Starting with the Project Hardbody Nissan Frontier Concept, the truck’s design takes heavy inspiration from the Desert Runner Nissan Hardbody of the late 1980s. Its more notable feature is the concept truck’s rad wheel design. In addition, Project Hardbody has been outfitted with a gloss-black front grille, unique 4×4 graphics, a three-inch lift kit, and a full-size spare mounted on the truck’s bed.
The Datsun 720 pickup truck of the 1970s was the inspiration for the following Nissan Frontier concept truck, Project 72X. This concept pickup truck is painted gray with vintage side graphics and fitted with a 2.5-inch lift kit. The truck’s retro-looking wheels are repurposed spare wheels painted white. The last Nissan Frontier concept truck is Project Adventure, based on the current 2022 Frontier PRO4X. The concept truck is fitted with aggressive off-road tires, a five-inch lift, a carbon fiber snorkel, and enough camping accessories to fill a Bass Pro Shop. It is important to note that every off-road accessory on the Nissan Project Adventure is available from Nissan’s catalog or aftermarket supplies.
