Infusing modern technology into classic silhouettes has allowed Nike to give new life to plenty of its retro designs. The Nike Challenger OG demonstrates the success that approach has had in bringing the brand’s classic sneakers to a contemporary audience. The original Challenger was released in 1979, adding to a range of sneakers led by the Tailwind and Daybreak models. The 2020 model uses the same nylon, suede, and mesh that gives the upper of the Challenger the quintessential look of a vintage trainer but enhances the sneaker with a wider heel and new colorway.

The Nike Challenger OG is finished in a red and blue upper along with a yellow midsole, emulating a pattern order of the original by Blue Ribbon Sports. Slight modifications to the upper enabled Nike to infuse more color into the sneaker, giving it a more vibrant look than the models of yesteryear. Though its design is improved, the Challenger OG stays true to its roots, following in the footsteps of revamped Nike classics like the Tailwind OG, Waffle Racer, and Daybreak.
