Nike has been looking for ways to cut out the waste in its production process for some time now. While the shoe manufacturer produces several eco-friendly models, the Nike Atsuma goes about this using a different path. When sneakers are produced there are often a number of varying colors and patterns used in production. On other pairs of shoes, the designer’s logo might be cut from one piece of fabric and then the rest of that fabric not used again.

With the Nike Astuma that is no longer the case. While a teal green Nike swoosh is cut out and placed onto the inside of the shoe, the cut-out is used on the right side of the outside of the shoe. By increasing pattern efficiency, Nike wants to reduce plastic usage and cut its carbon footprint, all while giving you a stylish footprint of your own.
