The Dropcam is back with a new name, this time around fully embracing its new corporate identity. The Google owned Nest brand of home monitoring equipment sees multiple upgrades to its whole lineup, with a new software for its thermostat, a new hardware for its smoke and carbon monoxide detection system, and most notably a new name and hardware for its camera.
The Nest Cam can now capture up to 1,080p video and the app is now integrated into the Nest app, making it more convenient for households that have consolidated their home with Nest products to see everything in one place. The camera also features a new stand, a weak point that has been holding back the Dropcam, making it more adjustable for a more flexible viewing angle. Not only that, the sleeker design should appeal to more of a broader consumer base as well.
