A former professional Formula One racecar driver, Bruce McLaren won the US Grand Prix at the tender age of 22 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans eight years later. This is a man who knows exactly what drivers want out of a high performance vehicle. And he brought that understanding with him during his gradual transition from driver to designer and manufacturer.

As the founder of McLaren Automotive, he has created some amazing cars for both the racetrack and the street. The new McLaren 570S Spider continues this transition by combining the automotive excellence of McLaren’s 570S Coupe with the exhilarating thrill of open-air driving.

One of the most sought after body types in the high-end sports car market, spiders (or convertible two-seaters) are often prohibitively expensive. This has certainly been true of McLaren’s product line. The McLaren 650S Spider, for example, retailed for a hefty $265,500.

Comparatively, the McLaren 570S Spider is a steal at just $208,800. High-end features of this new McLaren release include a 562-horsepower twin-turbo engine, a carbon-fibre frame chassis/body, and flip-up dihedral doors.

McLaren Automotive will officially debut the McLaren 570S Spider on June 29th at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England, but the vehicle is currently available for preorder through over 80 official retailers worldwide. Public deliveries of the McLaren 570S Spider are expected to begin in August.
