One good thing to come out of the year 2020 is Maserati announcing an all-new supercar called the MC20. This is a significant moment in the company’s history because the MC20 was developed and built 100 percent by Maserati. In the recent past, Maserati has used Ferrari parts, mainly its engines, to make their cars sing, but things are different now. The Maserati MC20 is a 630 horsepower thoroughbred raised in a Modena, Italy. According to Maserati, the MC20 is more than just a sports car. It’s the beginning of a new era.
The MC20 stands for Maserati Corse 2020, and it took 24 months to be developed in-house. That includes the MC20’s heart, which is the first engine designed by Maserati in 20 years. The engine is called the Nettuno and this 3.0-liter V6 uses twin-turbochargers to produce 630 hp and 730 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission sends the Nettuno’s power to the rear wheels. Considering the car weighs less than 3,300 pounds, Maserati claims the MC20 can hit zero to 60 in 2.9 seconds and deliver a top speed over 200 mph – putting it in supercar territory. The car even has butterfly doors as a supercar should. Pricing has not been announced, but those wanting to own a Maserati by Maserati can put in an order for the MC20 right now.
