Taken by itself, Motorola’s ThinkPhone would be a serviceable phone: it’s got a beefy 6.6-inch display, 8 GB of RAM, and a zippy Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 powering the whole thing. A carbon-fiber finish on the back gives it a nice feel for the hand, and it’s light without feeling insubstantial. The Thinkphone even has a solid rear dual camera setup with a 13MP ultrawide lens and a 50MP primary shooter.
And while that’s all more than enough for a phone primarily intended for business use, the ThinkPhone’s real special sauce is its seamless integration with Lenovo’s ThinkPad series of laptops via the Think 2 Think experience. Think 2 Think enables the two devices to instantly recognize each other and connect when they’re on the same WiFi – and that’s where the real fun starts.
A unified clipboard and file drop system makes sending text, photos, documents, and more back and forth between devices hassle-free. Notifications from the phone appear on the ThinkPad’s Windows Action center, and users can take action by opening the phone’s corresponding app right on the PC.
One of the ThinkPhone’s most exciting features is its utility as a secondary webcam, offering a crisper image and much-improved flexibility in webcam placement (it’s not affixed to the laptop’s lid, after all): no more awkward up-the-nose Zoom shots. The phone is expected to arrive in early 2023, though Motorola hasn’t yet released pricing details.
