The mastermind behind this incredible set is LEGO designer Sven Franic, who poured his heart and soul into capturing the essence of the beloved arcade classic. The centerpiece of the LEGO PAC-MAN set is the mechanical maze, which faithfully replicates the game’s movements with the turn of a crank. Sven and his team dedicated a substantial amount of effort to perfecting this mechanism, ensuring that the characters move realistically as users navigate the maze.
But the LEGO PAC-MAN Arcade is not just about the maze. The set features a mini eighties arcade scene, complete with an illuminated coin slot that exudes nostalgia. Sven even added a red light brick to give it that authentic arcade glow. And of course, the red joystick moves just like the real game.
When it comes to the brick-built characters, Sven wanted to make them larger and more eye-catching than their maze counterparts. With the press of a trigger, the ghosts spin around and turn blue, just like in the game when PAC-MAN devours a POWER PELLET.
Interestingly, during collaborations with Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., Sven discovered that the yellow color used for PAC-MAN was actually inspired by the yellow LEGO bricks. It was a delightful surprise that further solidified the connection between these two iconic brands.
The LEGO Icons PAC-MAN Arcade set is a tribute to simpler times and a slice of childhood nostalgia. With 2,651 pieces and priced at $270, it’s a challenging build that will reward fans with a stunning display piece.
