La Maison Gauthier by Atelier Barda

La Maison Gauthier incorporates simple geometric and asymmetrical shapes to suit the homeowner's love of American minimalist painters.

A French-Canadian architecture firm, Atelier Barda stresses the importance of customized client service with a creative approach that responds to the specific needs of the project and its context. Perhaps no structure more clearly demonstrates the fundamental Atelier Barda spirit and mission than La Maison Gauthier.

A 3500-square-foot residence located in the foothills of the Laurentian Mountains near the town of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, La Maison Gauthier draws upon the homeowner’s love of American minimalist painters with a floor plan that incorporates simple geometric shapes in a series of interconnected design elements. The structure as a whole takes the shape of an asymmetrical V that links a wing of common living areas with a wing that houses both an automotive garage and an on-site ceramics studio that was an absolute must for the home’s resident artist. These elements inform the placement and composition of the European stables that the residence overlooks.
