Focal has introduced the Scala Utopia Evo M, a high-end 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker that updates one of the French audio brand’s signature Utopia models with its latest driver and cabinet technologies. The new speaker keeps the Scala Utopia’s recognizable architecture but refines the acoustic package with components drawn from Focal’s upper-tier hi-fi and professional audio work.

The main update is the 5-inch reinforced W midrange driver with an M-profile cone and TMD suspension. Derived from Focal’s Utopia Main professional range, the driver is designed to reduce distortion while improving transparency through the vocal and instrumental range. It is joined by a 1 1/16-inch PRISM M-profile inverted dome tweeter with IAL2 loading, extending treble response up to 40kHz, and an 11-inch W woofer with a 6 5/16-inch dual-ferrite motor for deeper, more controlled bass reproduction.

The Scala Utopia Evo M is a bass-reflex floorstander with a reported frequency response of 27Hz to 40kHz, a 24Hz low-frequency point at -6dB, 92dB sensitivity, 6-ohm nominal impedance, and a recommended amplifier power range of 50 to 500 watts. It stands 49.1 inches tall, measures 15.48 inches wide and 26.38 inches deep, and weighs 187.4 pounds per speaker. Focal’s Focus Time architecture mechanically aligns the drivers toward the listener, while the Gamma Structure cabinet uses high-density MDF panels up to 2 3/8 inches thick to limit vibration.

For room matching, the OPC+ crossover allows bass and treble adjustment by ±1dB, and the speaker includes four insulated WBT connectors for bi-wiring or bi-amping. Finishes include Off White High Gloss, Warm Taupe High Gloss, Black High Gloss, Noyer Foncé with a Sepia Brown front panel, and Noyer Naturel with an Off White front panel.

For serious two-channel setups, the Scala Utopia Evo M’s appeal is in how much flagship engineering Focal fits into a floorstander that remains visually tailored for residential spaces. The adjustable crossover, bi-wiring and bi-amping capability, and wide amplifier compatibility make it more adaptable than its sculptural form suggests, while the French-built cabinet and new driver package keep it firmly in Focal’s top-tier hi-fi territory.
