FIL chief executive officer Syunsuke Anai established this Minamioguni, Japan-based furniture and essential oils company in June of 2016. A great deal of this company’s success has been built upon the unique qualities of Oguni Sugi cedar, a timber that is locally grown in Minamioguni’s Aso District.

Oguni Sugi places a key role in FIL’s latest product, the MASS Series Dining Chair. Composed of natural wood and polished copper, the frame of this distinctly modern chair is designed to exhibit a lightness that contrasts pleasantly with the solid texture of the Oguni Sugi. The chair also attempts to incorporate elements of the groves in which Oguni Sugi cedars grow, invoking an airy feel that is similar to the natural environment itself. The MASS Series Dining Chair is finished by a matching back and seat cushion set that is covered by Maharam 008 Sycamore base fabric.
