In the world of resto modding, no two builds are the same. There’s a spectrum ranging from an LS engine swap and installing LED headlights to replacing the entire chassis and starting from the ground up. Expedition Motor Company (EMC) falls in the latter category when modifying vintage Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUVs. EMC’s latest creation is called ‘The White Wolf’, based on a 1990 Mercedes G-Class 250GD.
According to EMC, the company invested 2,100 hours in transforming the 250GD from the frame up to create the Expedition Motor Company 1990 250GD. It starts with media blasting the frame and treating it with an anti-corrosive primer and powder coat. Rather than installing a modern AMG V8, EMC cleans and restores the truck’s original axles with new internals.
The brakes receive new calipers, rotors, and drums for the rear. Its 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder diesel engine is rebuilt with new pistons, seals, timing belt, water pump, and other vital components. Naturally, the five-speed manual transmission also gets rebuilt with a new clutch and internals.
The exterior body panels are treated in white paint with black wheel arches, a front grille, a bulbar, and wheels. Inside, the Expedition Motor Company 1990 250GD is dressed in mushroom-colored vinyl upholstery. Of course, EMC’s vehicle configuration gives you various options, including exterior color, wood trim, roofs, front bumper accessories, and more. As far as pricing, the cost of a custom, rebuilt, vintage 4×4 icon doesn’t stray too far from buying a brand-new G-Wagon.
