The collaboration between Christiaan van der Klaauw (CVDK) and Revolution has resulted in a breathtaking rendition of the renowned Planetarium watch. The Planetarium Prometheus, to be released as a 6-piece limited edition, is encased in polished Grade 5 titanium, marking a first for this iconic model. With a 40mm diameter and a thickness of 14mm, this watch is a perfect blend of elegance and functionality, offering a lightweight feel due to its titanium construction.
The standout feature of the Planetarium Prometheus is its mesmerizing aventurine dial, which mimics the glittery expanse of the night sky. The dial is adorned with rhodium-plated Roman indexes from nine to three o’clock, and the brand’s sun logo marks noon. A concentric calendar display at the top of the dial indicates the date and month with co-axial hands. The highlight of this timepiece is the miniature planetarium module, which accurately displays the orbits of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn around the Sun in real time. The planets, made of hand-painted stainless steel spheres with Super-LumiNova, add a luminous touch to the celestial display.
The watch is powered by the proprietary CVDK caliber, which is produced, finished, and assembled in-house at the brand’s atelier in Naarden, The Netherlands. The movement features intricate details such as frosted star patterns on the bridge, raised stars, circular graining, and perlage finishing on the baseplate. The extended finger bridge, tipped by a star, resembles a shooting star, adding to the watch’s astronomical charm.
With a water resistance of 30 meters and a price tag of $48,500, the Planetarium Prometheus is a true collector’s item. Delivery is set to commence between late October and December, making this a perfect addition to any horology enthusiast’s collection.
