Casa Maiora, the latest residential project by Barcelona-based Studio Andrew Trotter, is a stunning example of minimalist architecture, with simplicity and serenity at its core. Located in the small seaside town of Carovigno, Italy, the four-bedroom house is immersed in the beautiful Apulian coastal landscape, offering panoramic sea views. The villa has been designed to mimic the surrounding landscape, featuring walls made with a local sandstone called Tufo, which have been coated in a pink lime wash, and expansive open spaces with high ceilings and large windows that provide ample natural light.
Designed for outdoor summer living and with a connection to nature in mind, Casa Maiora features a large shaded veranda covered in thick cane that draws on the open-air markets, or souks, of Marrakesh. The house also includes various outdoor spaces arranged across multiple levels, including a courtyard for entry and parking, a terraced garden around a pool, and an outdoor kitchen.
Inside, the villa is beautifully appointed with built-in furniture, selected vintage designs, and locally found antiques, all in warm earthy tones that match the serene and untouched beauty outside. Each room has large windows that frame views of the surrounding area while allowing the sun to heat the home. The bathrooms feature locally made sinks designed by Studio Andrew Trotter and cocciopesto flooring, a building material from ancient Rome consisting of lime mortar with crushed lime and bricks.
With Casa Maiora, Studio Andrew Trotter has created a beautiful architectural statement that perfectly captures the essence of the Apulian coastal landscape. It is not just a residential property, but also a rental property for those who want to experience the beauty and tranquility of the region.
