Designer Ian Callum’s car brand is entering the growing niche off-road EV market with the CALLUM SKYE Electric Multi-Terrain Vehicle. The unveiled prototype is a compact 2+2 off-roader billed as a “high-performance multi-terrain” electric vehicle with a fully enclosed cabin.

Based on looks alone, the Callum SKYE EV sort of looks like a futuristic lunar rover that never left the Earth. It has a flying saucer allure that looks great from a styling standpoint. But, given its small dimensions, it looks like it can only carry the gear for an extended trip off the grid.

The SKYE EV measures 159.3 inches in length. Its compact size makes it more of a one-day adventurer, with its 42-kWh battery pack providing a limited projected range of 170 miles. Nevertheless, the CALLUM SKYE Electric Multi-Terrain Vehicle aims to achieve a fighting weight of 2,535 pounds to be one of the lightest EVs on the market with a 50/50 weight distribution.

Callum has not disclosed a production timeline or target pricing for the SKYE EV yet. We can expect more details next year. But it’s exciting to see how the off-road EV segment is starting to grow from niche to mainstream as more startups and OEMs begin to offer ground clearance with battery packs.
