Bulgari has again partnered with Singaporean publisher Wei Koh, the mastermind behind the men’s luxury lifestyle magazine The Rake and the global watch magazine Revolution, to produce a watch dubbed the “Nuclear Option.” This limited-edition version of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT features a dial that is only 0.3mm thick. Since the indexes and hands were too thin to be coated with LumiNova, the solution was to paint the entire dial with bright green Super-LumiNova, creating a “negative” stand-out effect, hence the term, “nuclear option.” “Because of the hyper luminous quality of the dial, it is not a watch for the faint of heart or anyone who doesn’t want to be noticed in a dark club, bar, or restaurant,” says The Rake’s Wei Koh. “It will basically be emitting maximum wattage on your wrist all the time.”
The new watch, limited to only 30 pieces and powered by BVL 318 movement, is crafted in ceramic, with a 43mm matte black ceramic case and bracelet, a chronograph function, a 24-hour GMT function, a local time one-hour advance pusher, and a discreet seconds subdial. The release of the Bulgari x The Rake and Revolution Octo Finissimo Ceramic Chronograph GMT “Nuclear Option” marks the third time Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT has been reimagined for The Rake and Revolution, but it is the first in their ongoing partnership to be crafted in ceramic. Previous examples have been produced in titanium and brushed steel. Each collaborative reference produced by the trio has featured the manufacturer’s ultra-thin mechanical chronograph. The 3.30 mm movement features a horizontally coupled, column wheel-controlled chronograph with peripheral winding and a second time zone function. The watch is finished with a black ceramic bracelet with a 3-blade folding buckle.
