To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1962 Mercury-Atlas 7 mission, where astronaut Scott Carpenter wore the original Navitimer Cosmonaute, Breitling has unveiled the new and updated Breitling Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute. With classic elements and a traditional style, this new rendition of the historic 24-hour timepiece will turn heads with its updated style. Although other Swiss watchmakers may claim the prestigious title of the preferred watchmaker for astronauts, Breitling has long been the preferred watch for pilots and navigators worldwide for decades.
Upon first inspection, the new Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute watch looks almost exactly like the original timepiece that traveled to space. The watch features a black dial and an optional alligator or stainless steel wrist strap. Updated elements include a larger 41mm case full of features like a platinum bezel and premium touch. The new Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute watch has an open sapphire crystal case back, B02 movement, and detailed engravings honoring the flights of “Carpenter,” “Aurora 7,” and “3 orbits around the Earth.”
To mark the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the original Cosmonaute, Breitling recently unveiled Carpenter’s Cosmonaute at its first-ever public viewing to the delight of collectors who gathered for the event. The event was co-hosted by philanthropist Georges Kern and former NASA pilot Scott Kelly to commemorate and celebrate this rare unveiling event.
