German tuning company Alpina has introduced a limited edition variant based on the BMW 5 series sedan and touring models dubbed the BMW Alpina B5 GT. Limited to 250 examples, this Alpina model carries the honor of having the tuning company’s more powerful V8 engine, yet with over 600 horsepower.

The 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 received a remapped ECU and new air intake to maximize airflow and increase boost to achieve Alpina-approved performance. The results are a BMW V8 producing 634 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft of torque, allowing the sedan/touring model to reach speeds over 200 mph. In addition, a modified exhaust system with titanium nitride-coated tips gives the BMW Alpina B5 GT a commanding presence.

The B5 GT received subtle but significant modifications to cope with its new potential. For example, a new bulkhead strut and reinforcing the car’s front end for better steering feedback. The car’s rear has been lowered slightly to improve its center of gravity. Its brakes have been upgraded to Brembo 395mm at the front and 398mm at the back with ‘heat resistant’ brake pads. In addition to 20-inch 20-spoke signature Alpina wheels are painted in Marron Volciano with BG GT lettering.

Buyers can option their limited edition BMW Alpina B5 GT from traditional colors like Alpina Blue and Green or Arctic Race Blue, Petrol Mica, British Racing Green, Chalk, Imola Red, and Daytona Violet. In addition, the Alpina graphics are available in Marron Volciano, an exclusive for the B5 GT, and matte blue or green.

As for the interior of the Alpina B5 GT, buyers can choose between full Merino leather or naturally tanned Lavalina leather for the seats or race-ready bolstered sports seats in Black Dakota leather with Alcantara black and blue accents. Regardless of the material or color, all Alpina seats come with B5 GT lettering embroidered on the headrests.

Alpina did not state how the 250 limited edition B5 GT models would be divided among the 5 Series sedan and touring models. However, we assume most buyers will opt for the touring variant because who wouldn’t want a 200 mph station wagon?
