Silverstone Auctions is preparing to auction off a uniquely rare Jaguar XJR in late February. This 1990 Jaguar XJR Monaco is one of the limited production models built by the Paul Bailey Bristol-based company PBB design. More importantly, this is the first car that ‘Monaco’ PPB design made, serving as the prototype.
The Jaguar XJR-S Monaco features a longer, rounded nose with a downturned oval front grille. In addition, the front and rear wheel arches are wider, housing 17-inch split-rim wheels from Compomotive. Its suspension has been upgraded by the experts at Harvey Bailey Engineering. The interior is upholstered in bespoke leather with a suede-covered dashboard. However, the heart of the matter is its 6.0-liter V12 under the hood with a custom intake system and true dual exhaust.
This car served as the ‘poster child’ for the PPB design conversion package and was featured in multiple publications. In 2000, this 1990 Jaguar XJR-S Monaco was updated with Bilstein shocks, stiffer coil springs, and a Hyper three-speed clutchless manual gearbox. Only 12 PPB Design Jaguars were built, with a mix of convertible and coupe. However, it is unknown how many were V12 and inline six-powered.
The car is in perfect running order, with 59,000 miles on its clock and documentation for each mile. The 1990 Jaguar XJR-S Monaco goes up for auction at the Silverstone Auctions on February 25, 2023.
