They say that over time history repeats itself. In the nearly 20 years since GM stopped producing the Hummer SUV, the world’s definition of cool on wheels hasn’t changed much. We still like big SUVs, big wheels. Only now, you don’t need an aftermarket vendor to fit digital screens into the dash – they’re standard now. GMC unveiled the all-new Hummer EV SUV production version in a commercial narrated by LeBron James during the NCAA’s Final Four basketball tournament. The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is old-school hardware wearing the latest software.
The new electric Hummer SUV kept the boxy square-shouldered silhouette we recognize. Like upgrading to a next-gen electronic, the new electric Hummer is sleeker and thinner in design. The flat front-end is dressed in an illuminated grille in between a set of slender framed headlights. A heavy-duty skid plate and D-rings serve as the reassurance this quiet SUV can cause a ruckus off-road.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is a luxury electric off-roader featuring an Infinity Roof with removable ‘Sky Panels’ that can be stored in the trunk where the gas engine would be. GMC plans to offer a catalog of nearly 200 accessories to customize the 2024 Hummer EV. There is also an Extreme Off-Road package featuring 35-inch off-road tires with 18-inch wheels and additional off-road accessories for $5,000.
The Hummer EV SUV will be offered in several trim variants, from the base model to the Edition 1, which has already sold out. The interior space allows for five passengers and features a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with a 13.4-inch infotainment screen. Drivers will get to enjoy GM’s Super Cruise, the truly hands-free driving aid currently on the market. The SUV uses a tri-motor system, or optioned two-motor, with the most potent spec turning 830-hp and up to 11,500 lb.-ft of torque. The range is expected to fall between 250 and over 300 miles depending on options and trim level. Models like the Edition 1 are scheduled to arrive in early 2023, with the base models following in the spring of 2024.
