When one thinks of Airstream you imagine sunlight bouncing off the rounded edges of an aluminum riveted trailer. However, in case you didn’t know, Airstream has been in the Mercedes-Benz Class B camper van market since 2004. Among its production line is the Interstate 19X, and Airstream has unveiled its latest generation for 2024.
The 2024 Airstream Interstate 19X is based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Extended 4×4 platform. It’s a single-rear wheel configuration with optional all-wheel drive. At 19 feet in length, this camper van is short, making it nimbler when the road less traveled narrows. It comes loaded with everything one needs to escape the grind while staying connected to the grid.
From the outside, the 2024 Airstream Interstate 19X sits on 17-inch black aluminum wheels surrounded by BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. Matte black running boards greet occupants into its quarters. Exterior features include a push-button armless patio awning with LED lighting, an outdoor shower and gear wash station, undercarriage LED lights, and a 250-watt rooftop solar panel.
Inside, the Interstate 19X offers a Red Rock décor with aluminum walls, ceiling, and window trim. Occupants are treated to an enclosed toilet, shower, and sink. The galley provides on-the-go amenities like a solid surface countertop, a sink, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, and a stowable 1,000-watt single burner induction cooktop.
Comfort is provided by Simtex Marine-Grade Carbon Gray rear convertible couches that double for queen-size or twin beds. This Airstream camper van also comes pre-wired for satellite TV and 5G internet. And that’s not including the bounty of storage space littered throughout the interior and exterior of the van. Stay out for longer thanks to three water-holding tanks ranging from 20, 16, and 9 gallons. In addition to a 13,000 BTU non-ducted air conditioning unit and diesel-fired Truma Combi furnace/water heater.
Power is supplied using an onboard propane and 2.5-kW generator, plus 2 100-Ah lithium batteries and a 2,000-watt inverter. The price for all this rugged luxury is on par with an Italian supercar. However, the 2024 Airstream Interstate 19X is suitable for driving beyond the horizon.
