Land Rover ended the month of July by unveiling a new special-edition model based on the 2022 Defender. This new limited-production is inspired by the Camel Trophy off-road challenge event that helped further cement Land Rover’s reputation as an off-road explorer during the 1980s. Therefore, the new model is named the 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition. Only 220 examples will be built and designated exclusively for the U.S. market.
The Trophy Edition is based on the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic S Land Rover. The Trophy Edition package includes a tow-hitch receiver, air suspension, integrated air compressor, ClearSight RearView system, mud flaps, roof racks with ladder, and a front skid plate. The finishing touch on the 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition is its classic heritage yellow with a black exterior pack. This color is inspired by the Defender Works V8 Trophy, another limited-edition model that debuted in February. However, some may be disappointed that this new 2022 Defender Trophy Edition does not feature the new 518-hp supercharged V8. Instead, all Trophy Edition Land Rover Defenders will be powered using the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six, producing 395-hp and 406 lb.-ft of torque.
Bragging rights is not the only thing you get with owning a 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition. The first 90 owners, and their plus-one, will also get a chance to partake in a special one-day off-road adventure event held at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina. This 8,000-acre property located in Asheville, North Carolina, was built by Cornelius Vanderbilt’s grandson, George, in the late 1800s. The estate could be considered the Downton Abbey of America with a house boasting 250 rooms. This competitive event is scheduled for October and will put 90 teams in challenging off-road and team-building exercises.
The team that wins the Biltmore event will be invited to an even more exclusive adventure competition at the Eastnor Castle in the Herefordshire countryside in the U.K. This challenge will allow one skillful 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition to test the iconic Land Rover SUV on its home turf.
