The first official glimpse of the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer EV has just been released. Let’s get down to brass tacks. The GMC Hummer EV is powered by three electric motors producing an estimated combined 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. This means the Hummer EV can accelerate from zero to 60 in three seconds, using its “Watts to Freedom” launch control system while providing a range set to exceed 350 miles. Its charging capacity of 350 kW will allow the electric pickup truck to charge 100 miles of range in ten minutes.
Off-road, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV comes equipped with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler All Territory mud tires. An optional 37-inch tire will be available. One of the Hummer EV’s main party tricks will be its Crab Walk function using four-wheel steering to allow the front and rear wheels to turn and steer at the same angle under low speeds. GMC says this feature will improve maneuverability when driving over rugged off-road terrain. The truck’s adaptive air-ride suspension can raise the Hummer EV by up to six inches when the road turns wild.
As for the exterior design of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV, it looks like GMC picked up where Hummer left off with the T3. The new EV looks like a digitally remastered Hummer T3 with modern-minimalist styling cues. The roof’s transparent panels are removable. Inside, owners will be greeted with a freestanding 12.3-inch digital dashboard. The center console features a 13.4-inch infotainment system that looks like a flat screen mounted at the local sports bar. The overall interior design looks as sharp as the edge of a platinum credit card with more rectangles than a 1986 Lincoln Town Car.
Safety features include Hummer’s UltraVision which is made up of 18 different camera views to help avoid obstacles off-road and around town. GM’s hands-free, semi-autonomous driving system Super Cruise is offered. The infotainment can display off-road terrain figures to the driver like pitch and roll angles, tire pressure, locking differential engagement, among other things.
When can you buy one? The 2022 GMC Hummer EV top of the line trim is the Edition One starting at $112,595, which comes fully loaded with a Lunar Horizon interior featuring white exterior paint and bronze accents. However, GMC plans to offer a Hummer EV 3X in the fall of 2022, starting at $99,995. The 3X will have a total output of about 800 hp and 9,500 lb-ft of torque, with a reduced range of 300 miles. Those willing to wait it out until spring 2023 can expect a Hummer 2X with a starting price of $89,995. This model uses a dual-motor setup rather than three producing 625 hp and 7,400 lb-ft of torque with an estimated range of over 300 miles. The base model GMC Hummer won’t be released until spring 2024, and that will start at $79,995, with the main difference being a range under 300 miles.
GMC is currently taking $100 reservations on the 2022 Hummer EV.
