The latest news on the track is Porsche’s unveiling of its seventh-generation 2021 911 GT3 Cup race car. In true Porsche fashion, this new race car looks similar to the previous model – to the untrained eye. The 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car is faster, lighter, and smarter. The GT3 Cup is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that flexes “around 510 horsepower” with an 8,400 rpm redline. It’s capable of turning its rear wheels using 346 lb/ft of torque at 6,150 rpm, mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox using paddle shifters and a three-plate sintered metal clutch, using a single-mass flywheel. This improved engine can also run on synthetic fuels and is offered with three different racing exhausts, depending on which motorsport series the client intends to race their GT3 Cup.
The GT3 Cup rear wing offers eleven adjustable settings with specific mounting designed to allow airflow under the wing without interruption. The car’s front apron is larger and comes with a lip spoiler featuring separation edges, each with an air slicing purpose. Its curb weight is less than 3,000 pounds, but it is still a little on the heavy side for a race car, with a dry weight of 2,777 lbs. Porsche made a point to highlight the GT3 Cup centrally-positioned 10.3-inch monitor and a Rubber Switch Panel of ten buttons for faster vehicle tuning during a race. Porsche built the GT3 Cup to be more than just a winner. Porsche’s goal is to pass the 5,000 unit production mark with the GT3 Cup.
