Zenith is the official timekeeper of the 2022 Extreme E Championship. This year, teams from around the globe will venture to one of the world’s most sustainable and ingenious mining areas for the Copper X Prix — the Atacama Desert of Chile – a first for the electric rally racing championship. This unique region of South America is where Zenith will reveal its limited edition DEFY Extreme E Copper X Prix timepiece.
The watch is as innovative as the mining area from which it draws inspiration, with a carbon fiber case, titanium elements, and upcycled materials from Extreme E races. The Zenith DEFY Extreme E Copper X Prix is capable of taking on the off-road tracks Extreme E drivers conquer in some of the world’s most obscure terrain. It features the El Primero high-frequency, automatic 1/100th of a second chronograph with a 50-hour power reserve and a durable yet lightweight carbon fiber and titanium case.
The earthy copper accents honor the official color of the Copper X Prix in Antofagasta, Chile. Matching the Copper X Prix copper-brown accents on the dial, the Velcro strap features a black recycled rubber central element surrounded by a brown corduroy-effect rubber inlay. The recycled rubber found on the strap is from Continental car tires used in the race. Ali Russell, Chief Marketing Officer at Extreme E, said: “We are delighted that our official timekeeper and Series Founder, Zenith, has created yet another stunning chronograph – this time to mark our series’ first ever race in Chile. With the clever usage of upcycled race materials, the DEFY Extreme Copper X Prix completely embodies Extreme E’s sustainable philosophy. The design also looks incredible and is tough enough to withstand the rigors of the challenging and remote race location in the Atacama Desert.”
The DEFY Extreme E Copper X Prix is delivered with two additional straps in black rubber and black Velcro, which can be easily swapped without any tools by using the case back’s ingenious and intuitive quick strap-change mechanism. The DEFY Extreme E Copper X Prix is a limited edition of only 20 pieces. Fans can preorder on the Zenith website now for delivery by Nov. 31st.
