Zenith’s new DEFY Extreme Collection is a chronograph designed to handle (as the name suggests) the most extreme conditions. One of the main features of the Zenith DEFY Extreme is the rugged case construction that makes it one of the few mechanical chronographs out there that can handle almost anything that is thrown its way. The large 45mm micro-blasted case bears a masculine angular geometry. It has been created with sharp lines and an overall silhouette that screams toughness and resilience. Having been crafted from grade 5 titanium, it is stronger, lighter, and more corrosion resistant than stainless steel.
To demonstrate the DEFY Extreme’s combination of durability and performance, Zenith was the Official Timekeeper of Extreme E – a new off-road electric racing championship that took place in Saudi Arabia. “When we conceived the DEFY Extreme, this is exactly the kind of environment we envisioned for it,” said Zenith CEO Julien Tornare. The dial has been designed to showcase the complex mechanical internals that power the DEFY Extreme. To achieve maximum transparency the base dial has been crafted from sapphire giving an unobstructed view of the unique twin escapement setup, the mainspring barrel, and the bridges that are presented in black, blue, or gold. Using the DEFY Extreme to introduce the brand’s new quick-change strap system, each watch in the collection is delivered on a matching titanium, large-link bracelet, but also comes with an additional rubber and Velcro strap.
