Known as the watchmaker “inspired by the sea and delivering innovative timepieces to free spirits since 1846,” Ulysse Nardin has launched the Ulysse Nardin Freak X Razzle Dazzle. This newest addition to the brand’s offerings pays homage to its commitment to freedom yet adds a sense of style and flair that is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. The dial used on the Freak X features anything but a conventional look. Instead, it has a decorative movement plate that integrates the minute gear train for a “razzle dazzled” look. The chevron-like pattern on the dial was created using three different dial-making techniques: lacquer, laser, and an electroplating/galvanic treatment. The contemporary design and engineering of the movement come alive when positioned in high relief against the Razzle Dazzle pattern, breaking up the monochrome look of previous Freak X models.
Created as a timepiece that defies understanding of what a watch can be, Ulysse Nardin is once again pushing the envelope of innovative design and reaching new heights of design intrigue. The mechanics of the Freak X have been reduced and streamlined, as compared to its predecessors, so it feels like a whole new watch with a Freak look. The movement, the UN-230, a fusion of the manufacture calibers UN-118 and Freak Vision UN-250 equipped with 72 hours of power reserve, was first introduced in 2018. The large balance wheel is made from silicium, a technology that Ulysse Nardin pioneered. It needs no lubrication, with self-regulating micro-blades that use air resistance to stabilize amplitude and consequently increase accuracy. The Freak X Razzle Dazzle comes in three varieties of cases, titanium, black-coated titanium or 18K rose gold and carbonium.
