The Touring Superleggera Veloce12 is a breathtaking reimagining of the iconic Ferrari 550, blending the timeless design of the late 1990s with cutting-edge performance and craftsmanship. Unveiled at the prestigious Monterey Car Week, this limited-edition masterpiece from the renowned Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera celebrates the analog driving experience, redefined for the modern era. With only 30 units set to be produced, the Veloce12 is a rare and exclusive piece that offers discerning collectors a chance to own a truly unique vehicle.
At the heart of the Veloce12 lies a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V-12 engine, meticulously reworked to deliver 503 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque. This represents a significant upgrade over the original Ferrari 550’s powerplant, thanks to enhancements from Touring Superleggera’s partner, Supersprint Exhausts. The Veloce12 retains the classic six-speed manual transmission, offering a pure driving experience that is increasingly rare in today’s world of automated gearboxes. With a 0-62 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph, the Veloce12 can deliver thrilling performance on the open road.
The Veloce12’s design pays homage to the Ferrari 550 while introducing a host of refined details that set it apart. The handcrafted carbon-fiber bodywork features a slightly longer and wider stance, a more pronounced hood scoop, intricately designed LED headlights, and a completely reimagined front bumper that enhances aesthetics and aerodynamics. The car’s rear is equally impressive, with updated taillights, a modern diffuser, and small aerodynamic slots that give the Veloce12 a distinctive, contemporary edge.
Inside, the Veloce12 maintains the luxurious ambiance of the original Ferrari 550 but with a modern twist. The cabin is adorned with swaths of rich brown leather, sleek metal trim, and precision-machined climate controls that exude quality and attention to detail. The pedals feature an intricate latticework design, while the gauges have been updated with a more contemporary look. Touring Superleggera offers virtually unlimited color combinations for the interior, allowing each owner to personalize their Veloce12 to their exact specifications.
Underpinning the Veloce12’s impressive performance is a bespoke suspension system developed by Dutch company TracTive. This adaptive suspension allows the Veloce12 to transition seamlessly between a comfortable grand tourer and a nimble sports car, depending on the driver’s preference. The reinforced chassis improves torsional stiffness, enhancing the car’s handling and responsiveness. Brembo brakes, featuring six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear, ensure that the Veloce12 delivers exceptional stopping power, complementing its dynamic performance.
Ferrari only made a few more than 3,700 examples of the 550 Maranello from 1996 to 2001. Touring says it’s ready to convert only 30 of them into the Veloce12 in left- or right-hand drive. Each costs $754,000 plus the price of the donor car and taxes. Deliveries will begin around the middle of next year.
