Tom Sachs has once again turned the ordinary into the extraordinary with the new J.Chair by Helinox. Built in collaboration with DAC Poles founder Jake Lah, whom Sachs calls “the greatest aluminum tube maker of all time,” this $650 limited-edition chair blends precision engineering with experimental art.

At first glance, the Helinox J.Chair appears utilitarian. Look closer, and you’ll find it’s packed with symbolism and exacting design choices. The bead-blasted DAC aluminum frame is raw and rugged. At the same time, Vibram rubber ball feet offer grip across a variety of terrain—from city sidewalks to sandy beaches or even imaginary moonscapes. The tensioned seat, constructed from a polyester-nylon X-Pac blend, contours to the user while providing maximum support.

Specs are printed directly onto the chair’s surface, including maker details, dimensions, and weights, highlighting Sachs’s obsession with transparency and form. Details like laser engraving, hand-drawn NASA-style typography, and schematic diagrams transform the Helinox J.Chair into more than furniture—it’s a conversation starter and a collector’s item.

Made to order and crafted in limited numbers, this chair isn’t just about sitting—it’s about sitting differently.
