Hammock camping has just flipped on its head. Haven Tents—the Utah-based innovators behind the original Haven and the beefier Haven Safari—have introduced the Spectre. This single-occupant, ultra-packable hammock tent was successfully funded through a Kickstarter campaign. Unlike traditional banana-style hammocks, the Spectre provides a flat-lay sleeping surface, thanks to its patented internal spreader bars and curved structural arcs, allowing you to sleep on your back, side, or stomach with the comfort of a ground tent.

Trimmed down with carbon-fiber spreader bars, 33%-lighter straps, and a lighter Silpoly rainfly (optional stronger Dyneema, the Spectre clocks in at just 4.55 lb (2 kg) fully rigged—with mattress included—and packs down to 15 × 6 × 6 inches. It supports up to 285 lbs, enough for most solo adventurers.
The body is built from semi-transparent Monolite mesh, trading heavier denier panels for full 360° immersion under the stars. Setup is fast—under five minutes—and versatile. Hang it between trees, or rig it on the ground with trekking poles in “bivy mode”. Interior pockets, an external gear sling, ridgeline utility, and a mattress pump bag round out the feature set.
Since launching in April 2025, the Spectre has surpassed $250,000 in pledges in just days—proof that ultralight comfort sells. For backpackers who refuse to sacrifice comfort for packability, the Haven Spectre is the most refined flat-lay shelter yet.
