Throughout history, the mysteries of our world have been guarded closely by secret orders from the Knights Templar to the Illuminati. The Old Guard Official Trailer takes that concept and channels it into a modern thriller starring Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne. Theron’s character, Andy, leads a group of enigmatic mercenaries who border on deified-status as immortals. Nile, played by Layne, joins their ranks at a crucial moment in the order’s history where they are at risk of having their genetics replicated to spawn an army of super-soldiers that will serve the forces of evil they have fought against for centuries. If the covert group of mercenaries doesn’t defeat this enemy, the balance between good and evil will be irreparably altered.
The film follows in the footsteps of releases like The Watchmen by bringing a legendary graphic novel to the silver screen. Greg Rucka’s illustrated masterpiece is set for a theatrical release directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The Old Guard will be released on July 10 as a Netflix Original.
