Apple announced their new iPhone at their biggest even of the year in San Francisco. The new phone is imaginatively called the iPhone 7, a phone that Apple boasts as the best smartphone they’ve ever made. Due to the uncontrollable leaks online, most of the major features have already been revealed online, something Apple has struggled with since the passing of their former CEO, Steve Jobs. Nonetheless, this is Apple’s most important product launch of the year, and they had several surprises hidden up their sleeves.

The iPhone 7 retains the same overall shape as the iPhone 6S, but is now available with a new jet black high-gloss and a matte black finish, along with silver, rose gold, and gold. The phone gets a performance bump thanks to the A10 Fushion chip, and is now water and dust resistant, so those of us that are more prone to mishaps can rest assured.

The real standout feature of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are the new cameras available on these new devices. The cameras are obviously more powerful than ever before, but the iPhone 7 Plus pushes the capabilities of the smartphone camera closer to that of rigs used by professional photographers. The dual camera provides zoom and depth of field for more gorgeous photographs that can even match photos taken with high end cameras. Audio wise, the iPhone 7 gains a pair of stereo speakers, but as many have predicted loses the 3.5mm audio jack. EarPods can now be connected via the lightening connector, but Apple will include 3.5mm to lightening adaptors with all iPhones. There’s also the option to purchase the completely wireless AirPods starting late October.

The iPhone 7 will retain its predecessor’s pricing but with double the capacities across the board, and will be available starting September 16.
