Taking part in the miracle of human flight is now even more obtainable than ever, at least if you have a spare $200,000 sitting around. That’s the price you’ll have to be willing to shell out to get your hands on your very own SureFly Personal Helicopter.
The SureFly is the helicopter reimagined as a personal helicopter/VTOL aircraft which safely takes flight. This mini flight system operates on eight independent motors that drive a single carbon fiber propeller, along with a battery-powered system.
The Surefly draws on a background of carbon fiber drone and electric powered vehicle design for this two person, eight-rotor helicopter. The gasoline piston engine powers up dual generators that provide power to prop motors that can reach a 70 mph top speed at a max altitude of 4,000 feet.
Acting as a hybrid aircraft the personal helicopter is intended for short hop trips within a 70-mile range and within the one hour flight time available for each tank of gas. Its carbon fiber body is also equipped with an onboard fully redundant backup battery system with dual lithium battery packs that can provide five minutes of emergency landing power to ensure the high flying fun. Though should you find yourself in the perils of an emergency the helicopter is fully equipped with a ballistic parachute for an emergency landing.
As a Piloted Vehicle, the helicopter is designed to carry both pilot and passenger or a pilot and cargo. Once on solid ground, the four carbon fiber arms of the vehicle fold down to lower the helicopter’s profile for easier storage in a small space or standard garage. The helicopter’s carbon fiber construction is lightweight enough to provide an on the ground weight of 1,100 pounds with a max takeoff weight of 1,500 pounds.
