A leading Taiwanese architecture firm located in the bustling metropolis of Taichung, Very Studio | Che Wang Architects recently overhauled a local apartment with dramatic results. Behold the Sunny Apartment.
Epitomizing a typical Taiwanese housing unit, the original Taichung apartment suffered from multiple common design flaws. Cluttered with boxy rooms that restricted movement, the apartment was a claustrophobic’s worst nightmare. Very Studio | Che Wang Architects rose to this exceptional renovation challenge, employing a three-pronged strategy to attack the apartment’s shortcomings and completely reimagine its interior.
First and foremost, the architects emphasized the importance of flowing inner space, opening the apartment by restructuring it as a series of interconnecting pentagons. By removing multiple walls and setting new walls at various angles, the Sunny Apartment made the most of its southern exposure to capture more light and extend line of sight. This open concept also contributed to the second prong of the architects design strategy: improved ventilation. As air can now circulate through the apartment as easily as sunlight, residents will breathe easy and rest comfortably.
The last element of this dramatic redesign, sound control offers a quiet respite from the noise of the city. The apartment’s dome-form ceilings create several sound fields that offer soft boundaries of auditory privacy.
