SK hynix, a global leader in memory semiconductor technology, is venturing into the consumer market with its first-ever portable solid-state drive (SSD), the SK hynix Beetle X31. This highly anticipated release follows the X31’s successful debut in South Korea in May 2023 and is set to hit global markets, starting with the United States in late June.

The SK hynix Beetle X31 has garnered accolades for its exceptional performance, convenient portability, and stylish design. With operating speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) and advanced heat management capabilities, the X31 is perfectly suited for the fast-paced demands of modern users who require rapid data transfer and secure storage on-the-go.

What sets the X31 apart is its innovative combination of SK hynix’s cutting-edge technologies. By incorporating DRAM as a buffer inside the SSD, the X31 achieves maximum sequential read and write speeds of 1,050 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 1,000 MB/s, respectively. This means that transferring a 1 GB file can be accomplished in just one second, and the X31 maintains an optimal speed of over 900 MB/s while transferring 500 GB of data.

Furthermore, the SK hynix Beetle X31 boasts a durable aluminum case that dissipates heat effectively while safeguarding the device’s internals. It has passed a rigorous two-meter drop test and comes with a three-year warranty, providing customers with increased reliability.

Designed with portability in mind, the X31 weighs a mere 53 grams and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. Shaped like a beetle, it features an ergonomically designed aluminum body with smooth, rounded edges for enhanced grip. The X31 is compatible with a wide range of devices, including IBM PCs, Macs, tablet PCs, Android smartphones, and gaming consoles.

The X31’s popularity has skyrocketed since its release, with the first batch of stocks selling out within a day in South Korea. Building on this success, SK hynix plans to expand its market reach to the United States, Europe, and other parts of Asia. According to Chan-dong Park, head of NAND marketing at SK Hynix, “Beginning with the X31, we will continue to set trends in the portable SSD market starting from the Korean market all the way to overseas markets like the U.S.”
